The service for development of protein biomarker assays
Historically immuno-assays have been used to monitor levels of protein biomarkers in samples. While these assays provide high quality data, the development of protein assays has been a bottleneck in protein biomarker development for many years identified with long timelines, high cost and a low success rate.
NextGen Sciences has the expertise and know-how to develop protein biomarker assays using a mass spectrometry method called the MRM protein assay (LC-MRM/MS). Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) is a method that has been used in clinical settings for over 20 years to monitor small molecule concentrations. With the MRM protein assay the small molecule is a peptide(s) that represent a protein. This process eliminates the long timeline, lowers cost and has a high success rate.
Benefits & Features of the MRM protein assay:
- Quantitation is not dependent on affinity reagents, so no antibodies required
- High specificity for targeted protein(s) including post-translational modifications and isoforms
- Multiplexing of 25 + proteins per assay
- Assay development time is rapid compared to traditional techniques, often weeks rather than many months or years
