10th January 2006 NextGen Group PLC, (LSE:NGG) the Cambridge, UK, based “gene-to-protein” company and Proteomic Research Services Inc (PRS) of Michigan, US announce that they have entered into a Commercial Alliance Agreement. NextGen recently floated on the AIM market in London raising £1.9 million in an oversubscribed offering which included strong institutional investor support from Germany as well as in the UK. Under the terms of the Alliance, NextGen will market and sell globally the proteomic analysis services available through PRS as an extension to NextGen’s ContractExpressTM fee for service product offering. In return PRS will provide an operational base across North America for NextGen offering customer and technical support services, warehousing, shipping, maintenance, training and customer demonstration facilities. The Companies have also agreed to jointly develop and commercialise a custom pre-cast electrophoresis gel service targeted at protein 2D gel electrophoresis end users. This service will utilise NextGen’s OptimizerTM technology and instruments coupled to PRS’s expert applications knowledge. The companies believe this is the first step in co-operatively developing further products and services to better serve the global protein research market. Commenting on the agreement Dr Michael R Pisano, President and co-founder of PRS Inc. said: “The commercial agreement between NextGen and PRS will expand our sales and marketing capabilities globally, gives NextGen a presence in the US and also enhances the product offerings of both companies”. Dr. Pisano added that “combining the enabling technologies that NextGen offers with the services and expertise offered by PRS just makes sense. We can now offer the researcher a compelling means of taking proteomic research to the next level through services, instrumentation, reagents and support.” Dr James Heffernan, CEO of NextGen Group PLC said “Our commercial strategy following our flotation in December 2005 was to create a significant North American presence in order to commercialise our range of products as well as the ContractExpressTM fee for service product offering launched in late 2005. Having access to the expertise and facilities available at PRS moves us forward significantly in rapidly achieving that goal in 2006. In PRS we have a partner with whom we share a common philosophy and outlook on the market and together we will be able to more rapidly develop the next generation of solutions for the proteomics market” -ends-
