Business Unit Manager contractexpress™ Europe
The Position
contractexpress™ is NextGen Sciences fee-for-service Gene Synthesis, Cloning, Protein Expression, Purification and Characterisation product offering. Due to rapid expansion of our customer base, NextGen Sciences are looking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated person to manage the European contractexpress™ business unit.
contractexpress™ is a vital element of the NextGen Sciences business moving forward and so this position carries with it high level of responsibility and a fantastic opportunity to immediately impact the growth and development of the company..
Initially managing a team of 3 scientists and technicians, and based in our Cambridgeshire Headquarters, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Working with the sales team and the client to prepare project proposals combining technical project specifications, project structuring, timescales and costs. Supporting the sales team through participation in meetings and conference calls with clients.
- Design, plan and coordinate multiple projects for clients at the highest level of technical detail. Using their greater skills and experience for troubleshooting and solving technical problems during projects.
- Communicating with an international customer base, to establish relationship and trust. Actively managing the relationship with the clients is key when developing and strengthening this service based business.
- Working with the head of contractexpress™ and the senior management, growing the revenue and profitability of the European business unit. Recruiting and developing staff.
- Continually evaluating new technologies that could add to the services portfolio and increase the market size and appeal of the service. Working with NextGen Sciences product development team, facilitate the integration of systems into contractexpress™ to enhance productivity and profitability, or to identify new product opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience
Possessing a PhD, and ideally post-doctoral experience, in a relevant life-sciences field, the successful candidate will also have a career demonstrating sound scientific, and project management experience. They will need to have had recent experience running a small research group, and be able to estimate and achieve project timescales.
Using a wide range of molecular biology techniques, they will be familiar with many gene cloning, mutagenesis, protein expression and purification techniques in several expression systems including E.coli, baculovirus and as an advantage mammalian. The successful candidate will also be familiar with the benefits to our customer base of protein separation and mass-spectrometry techniques.
Profound commercial acumen is pre-requisite for this position and the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in actively supporting the sales process. An MBA will be a distinct advantage. Excellence in communication skills, both written and verbal are essential as this role demands comfort in dealing with our multi-national customer base on both a commercial and technical basis. You will be able to work effectively in an international organisation and work with NextGen Sciences senior management and sales to communicate ongoing project progress and opportunities.
